The Vidyanjali initiative has been launched by the Ministry of Education to strengthen schools through community and private sector participation. Through this initiative, the schools will be associated with various volunteers from the Indian Diaspora such as young professionals, school alumni, serving and retired teachers, government officials, professionals, and many more. There are two aspects to this initiative for the volunteers: one is to participate in school service and activities and the other is to support government and government-aided schools through property/material/equipment. Through the Vidyanjali 2.0 portal, community volunteers can directly interact and connect with government and government-aided schools to share their knowledge and skills and contribute in the form of assets, materials, and equipment.

All relevant volunteers can contribute to the activities and services of the school as per the interest and expertise of the volunteers. Along with this, a volunteer can also help with tools, assets, or materials. The type of equipment, asset, or material could be civic infrastructure, common electrical infrastructure, support for classrooms, material with equipment, digital infrastructure equipment for extra-curricular activities, etc. They cannot contribute in any monetary form. Guidelines For States/Union Territories and Autonomous Bodies
- A volunteer is required to submit proof of identity before providing his services
- A circular will be issued by the States and Union Territories containing, inter alia, safety guidelines, standard specifications for contribution in property/material/equipment, and any contribution made by individuals, organizations, and non-governmental organizations above the specified financial limit. Recognition of organizations will be included.
- Volunteers can contribute in the form of sponsorship of events or maintenance services
- Contribution of property, materials, and equipment will also include a commitment to provide annual and regular maintenance
- Donated infrastructure must be in working condition
- All contributions made by the volunteer in the form of property, material, and equipment should be at least BIS marked.
- The nature of the services and activities should be purely academic or co-curricular
