The Gujarat Board was formed on the basis of ‘The Gujarat Secondary Education Act 1972’. And conducts state-level examinations. The main educational function of GSEB is to prepare curriculum for secondary schools and also to recommend textbooks for teaching in government schools as well as in registered private schools. The board also performs the duties of accrediting new schools, evaluating the performance of schools, and inspecting various schools.
GSEB conducts 2 (including 4-semester type examinations) main examinations – Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination for class 10 and Higher Secondary (School) Certificate (HSC) examination for class XI-XII students in Gujarat. The board also organizes a talent search every year for the students of classes VIII and IX in five main subjects. It is divided into 2 main parts.

Recently, GSEB has changed the state-level examinations from JEE (Mains) to GUJCET.
10th and 12th results are often bad. Especially the 12th board results declared in 2020 are really bad with a very low pass percentage.
